Well I can safely say that the eclipse was worth all the damn build up. All 3 minutes and 40 seconds of it at least, for that's how long totality lasted where I live. My damn phone camera couldn't take a good picture of it, so I can't share pics :( . I did learn something interesting. The last time my home state of Indiana had a total solar eclipse? 1869. The last time where I live had one?... 957 .

So I went to see Godzilla Minus One Friday night, and now I can finally put my thoughts down: Unlike so many Hollywood films now, Toho actually makes you like the human characters, none of whom come across as superior to the other because of their sex. No "I'm right solely because I'm a woman" type nonsense here, and the few times the female cast did talk down to one of the men... The guy quite honestly deserved it. Godzilla of course is the true star. Even when he isn't on screen, everything that happens is done under his shadow, and just utterly powerless humanity is to fight him. His attack on Ginza is... I haven't known hopelessness in a film like this in a long time. Just watching is heart wrenching. This is one of the few times in any of his films you see Godzilla actively go after humans, and not just trample them without noticing or caring.
